Sea Creatures: An Immersive Art Experience

Growing up on the Gulf Coast in Florida I learned to take for granted the abundance of Sea Creatures in my own backyard.

Though frowned upon now: it was a less populated water community when I was a child and we thought nothing of hand-feeding endangered species such as wood storks. Besides capturing tadpoles, which I'm sure every child explores, some of my other childhood adventures included happening upon innumerable horseshoe crabs along the shoreline while walking on the beach. Swimming in the gulf with sharks and in the canals with gators. With the carefree viewpoint of a child, I wasn't thinking of the dangers. I supposed you could say I “survived”.

When I decided to embark on creating my own solo shows I chose Sea Creatures due to the concept being ‘easy” for me. Though taken for granted I knew these creatures and felt a certain water community affinity for them. I felt confident that I would be able to depict these creatures, in my style, and use the rest of my time to create the actual “immersive” experience. This was my time to explore, expand, and learn about creating my own show.

Some of these creatures I’ve had personal encounters with and some I just really wanted to paint.

And Though I chose an “easy” subject matter this is still my art and my vision. I truly hope you enjoy my efforts and allow yourself to be Immersed with the Sea Creatures.

I want to thank everyone who has encouraged me. Supported me. Or helped me to get to this point.

And a Huge Thank You to my brother Robert Heffley. He helped make this vision of creating an immersive art experience of sea creatures a reality. I am eternally grateful for his skill as a master carpenter and lending his expertise as a craftsman in his own right.

Being an artist can be a struggle. We doubt ourselves even as we have this need to create.

Thank you for exploring this experience with me.

I hoped you enjoyed the show!
